Comments from Michael Cook's motherI'd like to let this go in light of recent events, but some people were making some really insensitive comments in response the Ronnie Radke post. I just wanted you let you guys know that the mother of Michael Cook (he's the one who got murdered) was reading them, and responding. Demanding you be sympathetic and understanding would contradict my earlier post about Heath Ledger's death (and why we don't mourn the faceless), but I did want to bring to your attention and humanize the sitch a bit-- because this really is a larger issue than "no more vocals from Ronnie" or whatever. The following is some of her commentary:
![]() I have already seen posts that blame me for ruining teenagers lives and posts saying "f*** that bitches son- people care more about Escape The Fate than her gay @ss son". To those people... you don't know me or my son and I will try not to take these attacks to heart. To answer questions... Michael did have an older sister and 2 younger brothers, a mother, a father, a step-mother, a step-father, a serious girl in his life, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who miss him daily. There have been 3 babies named after him so far. To those of you showing your sympathy and compassion... thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means a lot. Marcel Colquitt was who Ronnie challenged to the fight. He felt a lot of guilt over my sons death and did commit suicide on Sept. 19th at the age of 22. To Escape the Fate... I have talked to one of the members of the band on a couple of occasions. I have nothing against the band and wish them all of the success in the world and they know that. This horrible event involved Ronnie not Escape the Fate. Don't blame the band. Michael's myspace is myspace.com/justiceformichael One more thing-- regarding the restitution that Ronnie was ordered to pay. I did not ask for anything but Justice. The Judge ordered the restitution. I could really give a flying crap about money. It will never bring back what I want most in my life-- my son Michael. Again, if you think I am a gold digger....you don't know me at all and its a shame. I am a damn good person :) Thank you, Setta Freeman (yes they misspelled my name in the article)

But I can tell you that 'the faceless' as well suffer this type of casual small-talk level of post mortem libel on the internet. It's everywhere. After my niece was killed, my brother actually had to get restraining orders against people posting anonymous deliberately insensitive comments in her paid online memorial guest book. People who didn't even know her. And she was a small town 17-year-old girl, not a rock star.
The comments on the Legacy pages of soldiers killed in the military, especially in Iraq, make me weep for humanity.
"Disturbing the peace of the dead" is an actionable crime in the UK. It hurts everyone, and brings the internet down to the level of a mob eating popcorn in front of the execution chamber.
Setta sounds like a smart mother with better things to do than fight with trolls. I respect her with all my heart. Thanks for posting this.
"He felt a lot of guilt over my sons death and did commit suicide on Sept. 19th at the age of 22. To Escape the Fate..'
Nice bit of Found Poetry there.
I love Escape the Fate, they're a great band.
That doesn't mean Ronnie should get a 'get out of jail free' card.
I don't think he should get 20 to life, but some jailtime is needed.
Why isn't the killer doing hard jail time?
He committed suicide.
i think.
It seems as though now a days it is completely okay to act like an ignorant, insensitive asshole because it just happens to be "your opinion." That is the cushion everyone falls back on, right? Free dom of Speech? Freedom of Speech has been used and manipulated to mean Freedom to be a complete insensitive, arrogant and selfish prick and only think about yourself and your own feelings. There is something called manners that it seems today's youth are NOT being taught. It is now moved on to being "Generation ME," and I already stand disgusted.
MY deepest condolences to the mother that lost her son.
I feel so horrible for her. She suffered a terrible lose. My thoughts go out for her.
I know I'm going to get a lot of shit for this but my gosh. People die everyday. Just recently a 2 year old was thrown over a bridge where I live. Two years old! Why is it that the death of one man is so important? He experienced life, unlike that little boy. Why can't something more important, affecting more people be big news? There are so many things overshadowed... so many more important thing. Mrs. Freeman, I'm not trying to be rude, I've lost loved ones and sympathize, but come on! The amount of attention this is getting is ridiculous!
