Justin Timberlake-inspired art show![]() Margaritas + J.T. = brilliant art? Perhaps. New York art curator Nicholas Weist put on a show dedicated to Timberlake, called "If I Told You You Were Beautiful Would You Date Me on the Regular?," according to MTV News. The show included collage, sculpture, site-specific installation, photography, drawing, performance and video art. The variety of media in the show reflects Weist's fascination with the evolution of Timberlake's music and image, as well as the pop star's own forays into other kinds of artistic expression, including film, fashion and television. The exhibit was only open one night. The unusually short length of the exhibit also makes a point about pop culture: "The whole show was conceived, planned and executed in less than three weeks," Weist said. "I felt it was necessary to work quickly to preserve the show's energy and vitality, similar to the way in which stars are created so simultaneously now. This interests me not because it's Justin Timberlake, but because I see so much fan-inspired art here on Buzznet. How rad would it be for someone to curate an art show around Fall Out Boy or MCR? Or any band? And if fans submitted in all the different mediums, similar to this J.T. show? This sort of inspiration crossover ties into our Panic at the Disco inspiration-discussion from a few days ago -- for those of you who create fan art, how did you get started? Was it a new way for you to express your dedication, or just a way for you to specifically focus your creativity? Tell us your story. Also, Mr. Weist, why did you not invite Jen? She has Justin artwork: ![]()

but i think that jen should have her own exhibition hahaha
(omg i just used neat in that sentence and was totally serious about it)
I agree!
he may not "do much" for you, but regardless timberlake is clearly a pop icon who has indeed had an evolving career.
sure he may have been in some movies but his acting talent isn't great, thats why with the exception of shrek which was an already established film he had a mediocre part that could have been done better by someone lesser known and the only reason for him having gotten that part is because he was dating cameron diaz at the time
his music is nothing special, he pretty much is not any different from the already established artists of the same genre a lot of whom were already established before his solo career took off, most of the time people go on and on about how he is unique, i dont see it, he's cited as the new jackson in some cases and his dancing is revered personally i see nothing amazing about his dancing ability because the dancers he uses do the exact same thing as have many other people before him. theres nothing exhibition worthy about him at all, they should have used someone who has obviously had an evolving career
yes timberlake will draw in the crowds but really why put on an exhibition of something that everyone has already seen, why not document the career of someone people dont know much about, someone from years before
Personally I hear your point but I disagree, if you look at Justin Timberlake he is POP phenonmen! yes maybe he got the part in sherk because he was dating Cameron Diaz at the time, but what about his other movies. This was done on his own accord, whether we like to admit it or not. Justin Timberlake has swept the world with his music and now with his acting skills. I'm happy to admit I went to his conert last year, and it was truly amazing. It wasn't just a tenie concert. he certainly put alot of effort in to in, and having followed his career from back in the Nsync days, you may not be able to see it but he has certainly changed and has nothing to do with Nsync anymore.
I think people are being biased with this because everyone on her is in to the punk music, anything to do with pop music and people go ahhh...cause its not on the scene. Why document about the past when it has already been done so many times before, Using people of today..they will soon become our history and maybe that's why this person done this. each to their own! I say
see i'm not biased, i'm into the alternative stuff sure, but i love my pop music and i openly cite the band a1 as one of my favourites, along with steps and sclub 7, kylie [although not so much her dance-stuff more the stuff from the 80's] i like a lot of different types of music.
its great if you went and enjoyed his show shows are meant to be enjoyed, but i see nothing worthy of an exhibition of his work, i dont think he's achieved or done enough to warrant one.
i admit i've not seen the full movies he was in, but i've seen a lot of clips of him in these roles and i dont find him to be as good an actor as everyone says he is but then again given the right sort of role and film he could come into his own. i think he has done well to shed the nsync image, but if you really think about it, if nsync were still together they would sound pretty much the same as his sound now, thats the way their sound was going if you listen to the albums, the only difference now is that he works with some top producers and doesnt have jc to sing with.
i have nothing against him at all it just really bothers me that a lot of people praise him for things that have been done before and that he's revered as something that is the greatest thing to happen to pop and r&b. i realise that he will be remembered but wouldn't you rather have something like that about someone from the past rather than the present and see something new, instead of seeing clips from 2 weeks ago of them singing on a tv show? it might just be me but i think that the artist could have gotten so much more out of doing the same exhibition but focussing on someone different
But what does any of that have to do with whether or not Justin Timerlake is a valid topic worthy of artistic attention. Whether you like it or not, he is a pop icon and as such is as sufficiently valid as Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, 2Pac, Paris Hilton, The Golden Girls, and Britney Spears - all of whom have been subject to the attention of the art world for various reasons. Is art supposed to be making a statement about the validity of these individual's celebrity? No, and it is my opinion that it's simplistic to think so.
