Katy Perry: Kissing Girls = Going To Hell? This morning Katy Perry posted a picture and a link to a news story out of Columbus, Ohio that turned her lyrics into a message ...
![]() Katy Perry's only comment so far is "This… is why there’s a disconnect." Kind of ambiguous, eh? I mean, don't the lyrics already suggest that Perry agrees with this sentiment? "It's not what Good girls do / Not how they should behave / My head gets so confused / Hard to obey." I had a conversation with an artist on Warped Tour (Yonnas from The Pirate Signal) this summer who thinks that Katy Perry is teaching little girls to be homophobic, specifically because of above mentioned lyrics. "There's plenty of girls who kiss girls and like it -- they're called lesbians. By singing about it like it's a bad, forbidden thing, it's sending impressionable minds the wrong message." On the other hand, the "Ain't no big deal, it's innocent" lyric circles back around. What are your thoughts? I swear if I was still in school I could write an essay on this. After all, I did one for that Pussycat Dolls song, "Don'cha." Haaa.

Now what the church did, I have seen many a church across the U.S. use song lyrics on boards such as that to get a rise/reaction out of parents and teens and honestly, it's their way of getting people involved in their beliefs, then leave them be.
They have done things like this with the Beatles, Marilyn Manson, Nirvana, the Spice Girls and Britney Spears and I'm sure countless others and more to come in the future. Why is it such a shock that now they're doing it with Katy Perry lyrics?
The message they send of course is to people attending their church as well as passersby and honestly I don't believe we should pass judgment on others. I try as hard as I can not to. I firmly believe what one does in his or her own life is their own choice (most of the time it is anyways) and whatever consquences spring from their actions, they will deal with it (again most of the time).
I feel like I'm rambling.
What Katy Perry is singing about ISN'T homosexuality or even bisexuality. It's a trendy spin on them: girls can kiss girls all they want, it's TOTALLY innocent...but be sure you include a line like "I hope my boyfriend don't mind it" to assure the world that you're not, like, one of those LESBIANS or anything.
(I still say if the line were changed to "I hope HER boyfriend don't mind it" I would be much more okay with the song. OR if her first single hadn't been "Ur So Gay.")
But the church is being ridiculous. Mostly because the Bible only condemns men laying with other men. It says NOTHING about lesbians. READ YOUR OWN SOURCE MATERIAL, PEOPLE. You only hate gay MEN. Lesbians can do as they damn well please.
But yeah like Kasperobscene says, if we're going to Hell, it shall rock (provided there isn't a seperate Hell for Bisexuals).
Lets all toast marshmallows with Oscar Wilde!
Good girls do / Not how they should behave / My head gets so confused / Hard to obey." that it's just showing what a social stigma being a homosexual really is, she wants to do something, yet society is telling her it's wrong. Then she goes on to add that it's innocent, it's not a big deal. Next, I think the song also partially pokes fun of the girls at bars who make out with other girls to receive a boy's attention. Hello, we've all seen it.
The sign takes it too far. I thought Christians were supposed to be open and non-judgmental, yet when people see things like that, it just goes to show that they aren't open and welcoming to everyone. It's disappointing, and as someone who was raised Catholic-Christian, it's nauseating to read things like that. My dad is gay, and plays organ at his church who supports the homosexual community.
IF GOD DIDN'T WANT SAME SEX RELATIONSHIPS HE SURE DIDN'T DO A GOOD JOB AT CONDEMNING THEM. Look at the highly religious Roman empire.
Duh.
Cobra Parade is right; being a homosexual doesn't mean you're not helpful in your community or a bad person. It doesn't mean you treat people poorly. Makes no sense to me....
can we just get over it already?
mk thanks.
well the word "men" is used as a generality for both men and women. its the same as saying person or human.
personally as a christian i do believe homosexuality is wrong according to the bible but i also believe people should be able to do whatever they want to do without anyone "condemning" (which only God can really do) or discriminating aginst them.
whoever you wanna "play around" with or have a relationship with is btwn u and God.i can calmly tell u my opinion on it, but i or anyone else shouldnt be able to force my beliefs (or put up HUGE signs telling u things) upon you.
as are you two. =D
"No, Katy, please don't get all riled up about the BLATANTLY HOMOPHOBIC take on your supposedly 'tolerant' song'". (You know, as opposed to "Ur so gay").
She's probably only upset about it because they're implying SHE'S going to hell...
