Stephanie Meyer's Vision for Jack's Mannequin: Ocean Stalking Andrew?

breesays Sep 05, 2008
Jack's Mannequin and 'Twilight' author Stephanie Meyer met up in Malibu, California this week to shoot the music video for 'The Resolution.'

As Meyer's directorial debut, she has a mermaid luring McMahon into the ocean. "It's sort of a fable," Meyer said to MTV. "This mermaid doesn't take no for an answer. The more he tries to get away from her, the greater lengths she goes to be able to reach him, and so that ends up meaning a lot of water climbing things. He's running from the water. Even if he climbs a mountain, it still comes after him. To me, it references a relationship that was not healthy for one person, [but] that didn't matter to the other person. They still wanted what they wanted, and I thought this was an interesting way of interpreting that. It's really just normal relationship angst, and adding the supernatural element is just a way of making it a little more visual. Because, really, a couple not getting along is not as visual as an ocean stalking a person."

Stalking. Hmm. Look, I'm not a fan nor an anti-fan of Stephanie Meyer, but I am sensing some recurring themes in her work.

She said she watched some of her favorite music videos as inspiration for this one. And (are you ready for it?) her favs are OK Go's "Here It Goes Again,' Brand New's "Sic Transit Gloria ... Glory Fades" and My Chemical Romance's "Helena.'"

GASP. I like those videos, too! Anyway, no word on when we'll be able to witness this work with our own eyes. Stay tuned.
