July 31, 2006Bush Administartion To Remove Funding for The Hopeline :(
I'm not a petition-kinda girl, and I don't take on that many causes, but as someone who's worked with troubled teens before, I know that saving Hopeline is VERY IMPORTANT. So please read the following blurb, taken from PunkNew.org, then visit the site to figure out (very simple) ways you can show your support.
--------------------------------- 1-800-SUICIDE, the non-profit suicide hotline supported by the Take Action Tour is in danger of losing all federal funding. The organization has to date, accepted calls from more than two million individuals. At the heart of the issue is the confidentiality of callers; currently, the organization maintains a strict privacy policy while the government is seeking to obtain these records. Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), a division of the federal government's Health & Human Services, has decided to create their own government-run system because that the management of 1-800-SUICIDE has refused to turn over the control of the National Hopeline Network to the government. This is not the first attempt of the administration to influence the hotline, which earlier tried to force the charity to remove all references to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals from a recent conference as well as add session on "faith-based" suicide prevention. The government has also not lived up to previous comittments to the charity to provide more than $266,000. Conversely, both Mike Park's Plea for Peace and Louis Posen's Take Action Tour have privately raised that amount. For more information please visit Save1800suicide.org.

July 14, 2006Warped recap
Man, I love Warped Tour.
I got there @ about 10:45am and waited in line for the guest lists to arrive. I had a +1, but no one really got back to me, so oh well. The good news is I got to surpass that hideously long line. I went straight to the blow-up schedule first, and wrote down all the bands I wanted to see in the grids they were giving out for free. Last year those things were sparse. I walked around to orient myself with the stages and figure out where the Takeover and Over It tents were. Ken is here from Japan doing merch for Over It! I think he's here til the 31st or something. Takeover had a little puppy mascot, Marley, who was Ashley's dog. Anyway, onto the bands. The first band I attempted to watch was Saves The Day. I really wasn't that stoked to see them and then I walked over and they were playing Rocks Tonic Juice Magic! So I weaved through half the crowd and sang along for awhile. SO weird that Chris has hot pink hair. Next was Cartel. They are SO good! I took some video, too-- If I Fail & Say Anything (Else) Ok, sadly, I am over giving a play-by-play. Already. Haha. I watched Over It, and I LOVE the new songs, especially "Too Much Information." Here is my live video of "Truth Is" which was totally my fav song last summer... Between Cartel and Over It, I couldn't catch The Academy Is... so I then decided I was going to LA no matter WHAT. I finally had to hydrate myself and sit down for awhile. My purse strap busted but Jake saved the day and gave me a Kill Brand tote. Kill Brand has a really cute white super soft tee that I need to order before they sell out. We went back to the OI bus (super nice, btw) to get a couple energy drinks, then went to watch Gym Class Heroes. They are so good. Like, definitely one of my top 5 bands right now. I am going to buy the cd they day it comes out, for sure. The Queen and I is the catchiest, most upbeat song ever. Ill admit that my attention span is so short it's hard for me to stay focused for a full half hour. But GCH had my undivided attention. I caught some of Hellogoodbye's set (Forrest was dancing with a...sunflower?) and screamed when they asked who was reppin' the 714. Haha. They changed Paramore's set time so I only caught the last song :( AD escorted me onstage for Saves The Day acoustic... wow, what an experience. They were taking requests the whole time. That made me kinda wish I was in the front, so I could yell "Hold" or "Sell My Old Clothes" (although I heard someone yell that)... cause it'd be weird to yell from behind them, right? Here is "Cars and Calories" live and here is a new song. I met some people from The Out Crowd booth (that buzznet works with) and the Clandestine guy, Jordan. I think I actually met like 8 people. Hopefully, their names will come to me in the future. I stopped by I Am Ghosts tent cause Ryan was sitting there, and I hadnt seen him in months. They got busy and I no nothing about that band, so I left. Jake cut my bangs later i the evening, and then there was like, an after party/ BBQ. There was a blow up palm tree bar and some sort of raffle... for headphones, I think. Anyway, I am forgetting tons, I'm sure, but my hands are cold, so I'm done here. LA Warped later.

July 5, 2006Warning:
Don't sit there and play just
so frank, so straight, so candid, so thoughtful, so gracious, so sound, so even-handed. Don't be so damn benign and don't waste my fucking time." --Ok Go, "Don't Ask Me" Had this incompetant apartment manager not been 95 years old, I would've straight punched him in the face. Or at least spit in his face. I called this incoherent old man on Saturday asking if WE could see the apartment because my boyfriend AND I were looking for a one bedroom. After suffering through his garbled talk on the phone, we viewed the apartment. The guy showing is was super nice, and told us we could fill out the application and give it back to him right then if we wanted. So we did. He said we'd get a call later in the evening. We didn't. So we waited til this morning and I called back. He asked me three times if I had seen the apartment, each time I said --louder and slower, making sure to enunciate-- "WEVE ALREADY SEEN IT. WE LIKE IT. WE FILLED OUT APPLICATIONS THREE DAYS AGO. HAVE YOU DECIDED WHO GETS TO RENT IT?" Varying up the sentence structure here and there with hopes something would catch in that ancient equipment of his. I tried, God save me, I tried to communicate with this man but he just kept asking me if I wanted to see it. @#$%$%$ I hung up and Jeff called later and the old man told him for us to come at 4, and he would interview people. So I left work early to get there @ 4. The guy wasnt there til like, 4:30 or later. I swear it takes him 15 minutes to get up the stairs and sit down. I was patient initially, but now wish that I wasnt. He wants to interview people in the order they turn in their apps. Fine, were second, so we wait while he gives sh*t to the first kid about commuting and considers not renting to him for that reason (The kid works in San Pedro). We waited around for like 10 minutes for that interview to end, only for him to tell us HE WILL ONLY RENT TO ONE PERSON. Are you KIDDING me right now, you f***ing geezer? He says "We must not have read the ad clearly"......... um, no, I'm pretty sure I did. Like, three times. I don't take time out of my already full schedule to drive to these locations without being sure of things ahead of time. Still we had to suffer through his speech about his experience, so we knew why he doesnt rent one bedrooms to two people. Something about someone having an affair while her husband was oversea. And children. Right, of course-- were like bunnies and if you put two people in a one bedroom surely they will produce children? IDIOT. He told us he had a two bedroom opening up. Why the hell would we need a two bedroom? I paced while Jeff patiently listened to the old man going on about whatever the eff he was saying about other tenants. I was FUMING. Out of the three times I called for information, he couldn't have said something then? What about the guy showing the apartment? What about taking a look at the applications we submitted together and not make us leave work just so we can drive over there, wait, and then be told we dont have a chance? How about at LEAST having the decency to not make us wait through SOMEONE ELSES interview if you know youre not going to rent to us. I'm sitting here trying not to wish ill will on anyone, because I know what goes around comes around... We reported the misinformation to westsiderentals, but I mean, what else can we do? I am so irritated. Lately everytime I try not to judge people or situations based on my first impressions I always end up sorry that I didn't.
