Knut-Mania Update:

The world's most famous baby polar bear now has a song! It's true. "Knut Ist Gust" (meaning "Knut Is Good") is already in rotation on German radio.

Don't believe me? Go listen at Best Week Ever. And fulfill your cuteness quota for the year while you're at it. Another indication of Knut-Mania continuance is the hard to come by plushies. The Berlin Zoo sold out of the 2,400 they had, and are now ordering 10,000 more! Aw man, I want one!

Your Scene Sucks.

Remember Rob Dobi? He created How To Dress Emo 2.0. And I would've sworn on the Hot Topic employee handbook that it couldn't get any better than that, but behold Your Scene Sucks.

Are you a Williamsburg Hipster? Prehistoric Emo? #1 Pete Wentz Fan? MySpace whore? You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll question the youth of America, you'll nervously paw at your assymetrical kool-aid dyed hair.

Please don't miss the mailbag.
That's all I'm going to say.
Go forth and discover comic greatness.

Worst. Lyrics. Ever?

Sometimes I can go for years mumbling the wrong lyrics to a song. Sometimes, I don't pay any real attention to what the lyrics ARE-- especially if it's a song that just makes me wanna car-dance (ex. Sugarcult's "Bouncing Off The Walls). But bad lyrics should be acknowledged. Spinner has a list of 20, here's a few gems:

#3 "I don't like cities / But I like New York / Other places make me feel like a dork" (Madonna)

#20 "If I was a sculptor / But then again, no" (Elton John)

#19 "Lucky that my breasts are small and humble / So you don't confuse them with mountains" (Shakira) Yeah, cause I'm sure that happens. Hahahaha. I must have been so distracted by her hips that don't lie that this one got by me.

What I don't agree with on this list: "I love you like a fat kid loves cake." (50 cent) That is obviously one of the best lyrics ever. I mean, really, do YOU have a more accurate way of expressing your love? 'Cause I don't.

What's the worst lyric YOU'VE heard?

I think I might nominate a line or two from Fergalicious.

Maroon 5 "Makes Me Wonder"

Yeah I've never been stoked on Maroon 5, but I have a few friends who frequently testify to Adam Levine's hotness, so if you happen to be one of those people, I bestow this gift:

I don't love it, but I like the line, "Give me something to believe in / 'Cause I don't believe in you anymore."

Celebrities are ruining your love life. It's true.

I just read this article on Yahoo! Health that evaluates the affect of celebrity relationships on us commoners. It says that their love-fast, break-up/make-up nonchalance send us warped messages.

1. The Brangelina situation, for example, communicates that even if you're dating Jennifer-freaking-Aniston, it's still tough to stay faithful. Boyfriends and girlfriends and husbands and wives "Better Protect the Goods." Which is totally what the diaper-donning, weapon-weilding astronaut was doing. So remember the line between invested and PSYCHO is a fine one.

2. Reese & Ryan-- that was a tough separation stomach, wasn't it? They were THE golden couple. And then the bastard cheated. Y! says the interpretation of this was "no matter how good your relationship looks on the outside, it's still vulnerable at any time." And I'm not going to battle with that one. I believe it.

3. No one wants to be married to Tom Cruise, so I'm not going to even touch that. Even if, say, Joseph Gordon-Levitt were in love with me, I still would NOT want him to jump on couches and sh*t to demonstrate it.

4. "Really, the biggest message we get from celebrity hook-ups is that marriage is the commitment equivalent of dating. Find someone you like, get married. Don't like that person any more, get divorced. A wedding is more than a party with cake." Yes, except celebrities have

money

. I could get married four times, sure. But little girls' marriage fantasies don't usually have anything to do with some sh*tty drive-thru chapel in Vegas or a municipal courthouse. If I could have a chocolate fountain, a Vera Wang gown, gourmet cupcakes, a spread in InStyle magazine and impressive gift bags for my guests at every one of my four weddings (and uh, someone else would be funding this) I'd be down.

I can't say I buy everything I see in mags/blogs/etc. I mean, no one believes Spencer Pratt really loves Heidi Montag when he says it a [reality-tv] month after meeting her. But I'm not gonna lie to kick it-- my beliefs about relationships have changed a bit in the last few years. I don't know if I believe in 'Til Death Do You Part... but hey, we still have Gwen & Gavin (*crosses fingers*)

Do you think celebrity relationships change the way you perceive YOUR love life? Or your expectations? Spill them beans, kids.

Punk'd is over.

After 8 seasons, Ashton Kutcher is putting Punk'd to rest. The finale will air on April 10th, featuring Hilary Swank, Jewel, Magic Johnson & Nelly Furtado.

Or is he just punking his audience? KPTV reports that "In December 2003, Kutcher said he was the pulling the plug on the show. Speculation arose that the announcement was a trick aimed at duping new celebrity prank victims into complacency. "Punk'd" returned in April 2004."

Oh, and Ashton is gonna host a special "Punk'd Awards" on June 5th. I'm down to watch that. Punk'd honestly stresses me out, but man, there have been some good ones. Who would get your vote for funniest? Best sport? How about WORST attitude? Go forth and bring me links!

Justin Timberlake vs. Oprah

I don't really know who this Lefsetz dude is, only that he's some side of music-industry insider who sends out a lot of email rants. Today's was an issue of cred/no cred, so I thought I'd share a few:

Credibility

Oprah-- She features it on her show, people buy it.  Not only James Blunt, but that inane "Secret" book.  Maybe because she struggles with her weight, or she swore off tabloid issues long before everybody else, or maybe because some truth slips in now and again, which she doesn’t apologize for, Oprah could be the most trusted public figure in America.

Guitars-- You can complain about drum machines, and bad synth programming, but no one ever bitches that there’s guitar

iTunes-- Not the store, the software.  Let’s say they wipe the DRM from the tracks…  People will STILL buy from the iTunes Music Store, because no other jukebox software performs as well, never mind synchs with the iPod.

Ceine Dion-- Seems incredible, I know.  But even the most dyed-in-the-wool rockers who’ve seen her Vegas show have testified.  She did it her way.  She got off the road, she sees her kid every day, that’s positively rock and roll.

Ew.

Also on the cred list: Timbaland,  Wikipedia, Google, Ian MacKaye,  Tool.

No Credibility

Starbucks-- Sure, get a bunch of Paul McCartney CDs in the stores and a few will move based on impulse, but not because people believe the disc has got the Starbucks imprimatur, and that it’s good.  Starbucks sold too much crap under its name.  You might get positioning, but there’s no positive endorsement.

RIAA-- Oh, people hate the organization for suing its customers.  But it’s got no credibility because it doesn’t own up to how you get music today.  Trying to sue people back to the nineties is not a way to get them to see your point and believe in you.

Justin Timberlake-- Even Janet Jackson has more credibility.  At least she didn’t lie and apologize for the Super Bowl boobie fracas.  Sure, Justin never had much cred when he was a boy band star, but now he’s a guy who’s constantly playing the game.  Sure, people might like his music, but they don’t believe in HIM!

BLASPHEMY. I believe in you, JT. <3

Also on the no cred list: The CD, MTV, Paris Hilton, Heroin, Ticketmaster, American Idol, SNL.

Read the rest here.

Jessica + Jason = 2gether 4ever?

Guess who's sittin' in the slammer in OC? Ah, glorious mug shots:

POTP says that Jessica Smith (ex reality star of MTV's Laguna Beach) was arrested Monday on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after allegedly causing an injury crash on the Santa Ana Freeway. Cops say Smith, 19, of Laguna Beach, was driving a Volkswagen Beetle and slammed it into the back of an Acura, causing "great bodily injury" to people in both cars.

Maybe she really missed Jason Wahler and wanted to get his attention. "Look baby, I got a mug shot, too! Maybe we can get together and you know, do some community service? You look so hot in orange."

Don't Speak, er, Don't Sing My Song Sanjaya.

I really could care less about American Idol, but I'm tempted to care a smidge this week since my girl Gwen Stefani is guest-judging. Or something.

ONTD has some spoilers & rumors, one is which is that Gwen ain't too fond of Sanjaya. "He wanted to sing “Bathwater” She tried to get him to sing some 80’s song. He said he was a big fan and he really wanted to do one of her songs. Gwen was upfront with him and told him she didn’t think he could pull it off but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Today after seeing how rehearsals were going, she didnt see any progress. She went to Nigel immediately and told him she does not want Sanjaya singing one of her songs whatsoever. Sanjaya didn’t have many options at that point. He kind of got stuck with “Sunday Morning" (Sunday Morning the Maroon 5 song, not the No Doubt song, btw.)

So let me get this straight-- first a woman starves herself because she wants Sanjaya off AI, now Gwen is all "Oh hellz no he's not touching No Doubt!" Maybe she should just boot him off with one of her platform heels. Then that woman could go grab a pizza.

Really, I have no opinion of Sanjaya that is my own. I am, however, a mindless Gwen follower.

FHM gets Dirty

Shallon Lester interviewed everyone's favorite rambunctious roadie. Here's an excerpt:

You’re not the tour manager but you’re a fixture in the Fall Out Boy camp. What exactly do you do?
I just hang out and get drunk. I have probably the most interesting and unique job ever. They pretty much just pay me to hang out and have a good time—I’m kind of like their entertainment.

You’re like a whore who doesn’t put out, right?
Exactly.

Take us through the typical Dirty day.

I’m usually up sometime between 12 and 2 p.m. My favorite thing to do is open a beer and chug it. It wakes me up a little bit. Then I go in and bother our crew and keep drinking all day. I’m usually six or seven beers in by show time. The band will play their set and go offstage and I’ll go out and bring the band back out for the encore. I bust a few white boy moves to entertain the crowd. I can’t dance. After the show, I’ll hang out with everyone in the crew and in the band. Finally, I pass out at about four or five in the morning.

Release the Bats had some pretty gnarly stunts on it—you drank mud and ate your own puke. Were those antics fairly representative of your daily life or did they push your limits just for the camera?
No, that’s all pretty normal stuff. When I drank the mud, for some reason in my mind I was like, “It’s all just water.”

What’s the proper way to wreak havoc on a hotel room?
First order of business—open the minibar. After you drink, you feel loose. One time, I got drunk and these kids gave us a Slip ’N Slide. We put it in our room and put soap and shampoo and lotion all over it. Then we would go flying down the slide and hit the room door with a loud thump! We were slamming into each other and flipping the beds over and people were screaming. Ten security guards came into the room and saw these dudes sliding all over the place. They wanted to kick us out right then at 3 a.m. We tried to stay at the Hard Rock again this year but they said no way. It was worth it.

Is Fall Out Boy participating in any of this?
Patrick [Stump, vocals] sits on the bus and works all the time. He’s amazing, one of the best dudes I’ve met in my life. Joe [Trohman, guitar] hangs out. Andy [Hurley, drums] is a ladies man. He’s a nice guy. I think he’s got a girl now, so he’s settling down. Pete loves to hang. He’s down getting people wasted and have a good time. Most of the crazy shit I do is Pete’s idea.

Many more tales of Dirty debauchery at FHM online.

Bright Eyes of the Future

The Bright Eyes man of the month (er, next month, anyway) is unleashing Cassadaga to the masses on April 10th.

Nylon
describes Oberst's newest musical effort as an expression of the idea that "Growing up feels, sometimes, like standing on a precipice: You look out over a glittering vision of stability, a promise of love, of prosperity and permanence. You desire all of these things intensely, but just as intense is your urge to turn and run; to keep sleeping on couches and having ephemeral relationships, to own nothing that can't be left behind."

Amen to that.

Paramore Update:

First, did you guys see the winner of Paramore's "Last Song You'll Ever Sing Contest"? I know it's old news, but you have to see it-- It's SO GOOD:

Here is the update from Paramoreband.livejournal.com:

HEY!

man, has time flown by. sorry it's been so long! we realized how long it's been since you've heard from us... and how much has happened since then. when i have my camera handy, i'll upload some pics for ya. although, i'm not sure i have that many as of right now. whatever the case, check back later for a few pictures!!!

after the "back from the almost dead" post, we realized how strong our connection with our fans has become over the past year and how much stronger it's going to become after our new record (RIOT!) is out. we were so humbled by the responses that some of you gave and at how honest you were with each other and most importantly yourself. it's pretty obvious that you guys are the best fans that any band could ever have and that all of us together have something that we never really thought any band/fans could have. thanks for taking the opportunity to allow us to open up to you and for opening up to us and each other in this community. we hope to continue to do things, by way of RIOT!, that will keep us as connected in the future as we are now. just keep your eyes and ears open for those opportunities.

also... can't believe we never really gave you a good update on this... Mary (the grand prize winner of our Last Song You'll Ever Sing contest) and the runners-up, Carl & Sarah, Kathleen and Derek did amazingly. we definitely picked the right people for the job. thanks again to everyone that entered, we had so much fun watching you guys enjoy music and just have a great time. would you guys ever wanna do stuff like that again? contests? interactive stuff?

now, for an interesting piece of information on the record that you won't get anywhere but here... (heh) we had a mariachi band come in on Monday. they laid down their version of a riff that is in a new song; working title "Mexico". if it works out the right way, you'll hear it on the record. however, even if it doesn't make it to the record you'll hear it and we think you'll love it. it was definitely a learning experience and very fun to learn about a different culture and the way they express themselves through music as opposed to the way we do. GOOD TIMES!!!

i guess, i have to get outta here and finish a vocal. only a song and half left until i'm done!we are so excited. oh my gosh. the longer i sit here typing about it the more excited i get.

GOTTA GO!
love,hayley and josh.

Mariachi Band! So happy for this new cd...

Britney Spears is so Punk Rock

The Daily Texan has an, um, interesting article that suggests that Britney has gone from Pop-icon to Punk Rocker. And they're totally serious.

It breifly explains a punk movement in Paris in the 1960's, then shifts to the history of Ms. Spears. Let me break it down for you:

1. She scoffs at consumerism. As evident from her decision to sport trailer-park garb despite having a stylist and a fat bank account.

2. She shaved her head. Need I say more?

3. Rehab, suicide attempts, and that Antichrist bit. Says The Daily Texan: "Self-destruction has been a tenant, albeit a tragic one, of the punk lifestyle since its inception."

And then they compare her to Kurt Cobain. Both "victim[s] of the fame and attention [their] art had afforded" them. No joke! Go read.

I almost buy it! I think it's the head-shaving that did it though. 'Cause remember when that suicidal chick in Empire Records shaved her head? That seemed so punk rock.

You have to be committed, though-- you you can't skip songs. I'm currently listening to the Nicole Richie-diss track. I think it has pop-potential! Plus, I like Hil D. She's classy and doesn't flash her unmentionables.

Dangerously Cute: Knut

Watch this incredibly adorable video of Knut, the (famous!) baby polar bear who was born in the Berlin Zoo three months ago:

Isn't he the freakin' cutest? Knut was actually a twin, but his polar bear sibling died ay birth. His mama rejected him, so he's been raised by humans. Now here's the shocking part-- animal rights activists say he should be KILLED :( :( :(

Animal rights activists, as SPIEGEL reported Monday, aren't so enthralled with the polar bear baby. They are concerned that Knut, who is being raised by human hand after his mother rejected him, is in danger of losing touch with the bear necessities. Some would like to see him dead.

"Raising him by hand is not appropriate to the species but rather a blatant violation of animal welfare laws," animal rights activist Frank Albrecht told the mass circulation newspaper Bild, whose front page headline Monday read "Will Sweet Knut Be Killed by Injection?"

Berlin Zoo is allowing Knut to be raised in such a way that the bear will have a behavioral disorder for the rest of his life, Albrecht believes. "In actual fact, the zoo needs to kill the bear cub," he adds.

He's not alone. Wolfram Graf-Rudolf, director of the Aachen Zoo, told the newspaper, "I don't consider it appropriate for the species that the little polar bear is being raised on a bottle." The animal will be fixated on his keeper and not be a "real" polar bear, he says. However he feels it is now too late to put Knut out of his supposed misery. "The mistake has been made. One should have had the courage to put him to sleep much earlier."

Read the rest of the story at Speigel.

Killing him can't be the only option! What do you guys think? :(

So sue us, whatchu gonna do with us?

I just read on Absolutepunk that Fall Out Boy is being sued because of the lyrics " It's just past eight and I'm feeling young and reckless the ribbon on my wrist says, "Do not open before Christmas."

It comes from Nicholas Hans, member of now defunct band called Knives Out, who said that lyric is based on a shirt they used to sell:

and the line below it reads "Don't Open Till After X-Mas"

Hans is reportedly in talks with a lawyer to determine his options. Ironically, (although completely unrelated to this matter) the lyric comes from the song the song "Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued"

Ha. Ha?

Barkers Back On, Minus Baby

Oh, your fav on-again-off-again couple are, well, on again. People reports that Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler HAVE indeed reunited.

Travis threw her a birthday party in Miami this past weekend, and they were seen being all ooey-gooey kissy-face on the beach.

Shanna also dispelled rumors that she's pregnant. Which is a rumor I hadn't heard anyway.

Her royal blondeness said: "While I hope one day to have more children with Travis, I am not pregnant, but yes, I'm madly in love with my husband."

You know... I really liked Meet The Barkers, and I think they're cute together, but I am the ONLY one that think maybe Shanna ain't quite mama-material? I mean, there was one toddler on the show who I SWORE was the NANNY'S KID. There was no mother-child chemistry whatsoever. So, in conclusion, I'm happy they're back together, and happy the babymaking is on hold.

NFG leaves Geffen, wins my love.

I don't really care what label my pop-punk loves New Found Glory are on, but I am SO HAPPY they're releasing "From the Screen to Your Stereo Part 2"! The first EP, released in '00, had classic covers like "My Heart Will Go On," "The Neverending Story Theme" and the live-fav "Glory of Love"

From The Screen To Your Stereo Part 2 will be out this fall on Drive-Thru Records. Following that will be a new full length in '08, label to be determined.

Who wants to guess what songs they'll cover this time? My brain is clouded with excitement, so I don't have any ideas. Yet.

Stupid trend alert?

Im Not Obsessed had some pics of LindsLo and Paris rockin' these gloves:

Does ANYONE think this is a cool trend? Cause I think it looks odd.

But maybe not as awful as this:

I would wear them in public for maybe, say, $500. Ok, that's a lie, I'd wear them for $250 (per day!) because I'm broke. That's what I think is happening here. Bribery. That's the only explanation, right? Or drugs?
