Why is Brendon Urie so scared? Caption it, my Buzznet babies, and tell us why our handsome lead-man of Panic! looks so creeped out.

She's just not that into you(r band)

You work hard. You practice practice practice. You flat iron your hair. You pour yourself into those chick jeans, and you've read "Everything you need to know about the music business" by Donald S. Passman.

Enter potential girlfriend. Potential is the key word. Here are 10 signs that she probably thinks your band sucks, pretty boy.

(List composed by me, trendysecret, newagemazon, hyperballad13 & johnnynotsid)

10. When you ask her if she's coming to a gig she asks "Who else is playing?"

9. When she see's you looking, she bursts into random fits of "dancing" but other than that she looks bored out of her mind.

8. When you tell her you are going to write a song about her, she asks to be referred to by her pseudonym, "Delilah"

7. She only applauds during your Weezer covers.

6. You give her one of your t-shirts but she only wears it when she's cleaning her bathtub.

5. When you invite her to a show, and she spends your entire set talking to the guy at the bar in the competing band.

4. When you ask if she enjoyed the show, she says ,"Yeah... you guys had great... energy. Yeah, very... energetic."

3. When you jump in the mosh pit, she rolls her eyes and immediately calls 911.

2. She drew herself a tattoo of you throwing your guitar around your neck and severing your head. It takes up her whole chest.

1...

Up for grabs. Can you outwit us?

($5 says Ashly or Christine will outwit themselves in about an hour)

10 favorite bands

So. Here are le rules.

1) Pick your 10 favorite musical artists. List them or elaborate.
2) Tag the journal "top10bands" so we can have a full tag page of all our lists!
3) Pick 8 more people to do this! Make sure to link them to your original post.

THIS WAS REALLY HARD. Just FYI.

10. MxPx
Good time, make my heart swell. Punk rawk showwwwww. ps. Mike Herrera is still hot. With the effing lip ring. Srsly. Kthx.

9. Paramore
I'm addicted. And they're going to be effing HUGE. The next No Doubt. For serious. That is all.

8. Fall Out Boy
The lyrics, the Wentz, the girl that gave me their burned CD and a few months later called me a Sociopath... what's not to love? I relate. I relate.

7. Dance Hall Crashers
Developed my love for them around the same time as No Doubt. Girl-fronted ska = love. And they played with YC one time!!!

6. Save Ferris
My first "show" Halloween 1999. I was super sick, I went anyway. The next day I landed in the ER.

5. Ok Go
Before the were on every commercial and teen movie there ever was, Ok Go played small shows, did awesome dance numbers and had the best merch ever. They're fun, but you'll f*cking melt if you're ever in the front row to hear Damian Kulash sing "Let it rain"

4. Jimmy Eat World
JEW is epic and TIMELESS. Their songs have the ability to pierce through my skin to my very core and become entwined in my DNA in a matter of seconds.

3. Yellowcard
They mean a lot to me because I as their first "OC fan"... I got to watch them grow, and I got to be a part of it. Without them, I wouldn't have know some of my best friends in the world, and I wouldn't have had some of the best times. I love them for bringing me into their world, if only for a few years.

2. No Doubt
Do I really need to explain it to you? My love for No Doubt even outlasts the length of my best-friendship.

1. New Found Glory
Because if I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, it would be them. If I had to get a band tattoo (or any tattoo), it would be "NFG"
I don't know how many shows of theirs I've been to-- about 20 or so-- but I've had more fun at those shows than anything else. The one time I ever crowd surfed was during NFG at Warped Tour. Love than more than life itself.

Scrapped Panic! song titles

They wrote a second album, they ditched the second album. We decided to have some LOLz imagining what their song titles might have been (and I picked out my favs).

Submitted by Sarah:
  • I Tried to Get a Witty Title but all I Could Come Up with is This Elogated Choice Of Words That Don't Mean Anything at all and Annoy Critics all Around.
  • Everything In Slash Is True
By Ashly:
  • I Am Jack's Desperate Attempts to Get Into Pete Wentz's Pants
  • The First Rule of the Scene is You Do Not Talk About the Scene
  • His Name Was Brent Wilson
  • I Know this Because Travi Knows This
  • I don't want to lie, I can't tell the truth, so it's over.
By Maddie:
  • Rydon Dirtahhh
By Kevin Wade:
  • How Morbid Obsession Becomes Profitable Yet Painful Reality
  • I Once Murdered My Drama Teacher Over A Matter Of 30 Dollars (My Penchant For Clown Makeup Proceeds Me)
  • Walking The Line Of Pretentiousness And Elitism Becomes A Futile Exercise When You Check Substance At The Door
  • The Only Difference Between First Degree Murder And Involuntary Manslaughter Is Years of Threatening E-Mails
UPDATED FROM THE COMMENTS:

By Jenrrray:
  • Being happy, while nice, is apparently not conducive to writing good lyrics (or how brendon urie conspired to save the band by sabotaging ryan's happiness)
  • 13 cases of red bull may or may not have been involved

By Brianfax:
  • Frilly Vests and Hairless Chests Mean Manscaping or Pre-pubescence (Take Your Pick, Both Are Probably Right)

By Maddieeee14:
  • Were Gonna Make This Song Title Really Long To REALLY Make Your iTunes Hate Us

By xdinosaursrkickazzx:
  • There's a good reason why i have such long elaborate titles but you will never guess it
By taylorxamore:
  • Lying is the best we can do because we're afraid to come out.
  • But Life's Better as a Slash
  • Build Pete Wentz, then we Have a Scene
  • What Happens In Vegas Stays In Vegas,,, Except for our eyeliner and tight pants

Think you can do better? Be our guest...

Gossip Girl vs. The O.C.

How could I NOT give this show a chance? It's from the creator of 'The O.C.' (Josh Schwartz) and he toted along his music supervisor (Alex Patsavas, who also does 'Grey's Anatomy'). The Hills has been boring me to tears, so I was due for some quality manufactured drama... and stylish characters.

My take? (I never read the books, just FYI)
  • The rivalry between Blair and Serena seems weird. I'm going to need more backstory to understand.
  • Dan Humphrey = Seth Cohen. You don't think he's cute at first glance and then he does the shy/nerdy/good guy thing and you're like *melt*
  • Lily van der Woodsen looks a little TOO much like the Cohen ma. I'm just sayin'.
  • Nate Archibald = a more attractive Ryan Atwood. Except he's not from Chino. But he does spend a lot of time "giving looks" instead of talking.
  • Chuck = evil sleaze! A hot, hot, hot evil sleaze! Hahah.
  • I like that Kristen Bell ('Veronica Mars') narrates, but I keep expecting to see her round a corner and be like "let me solve your mystery!"
  • How do they get their hands on that much alcohol? Aren't they in high school?
  • Why do TV dramas about high school kids always make me feel like I was hella immature in high school? Kay maybe I was, whatev.
If the promise of some good rich-kid tv drama doesn't entice you, maybe this cast will. They be pretty to look at.

Who's down to join me for Wednesday night 'Gossip'?

Lauren Conrad's line + Heidi's Birthday

Saturday, 'The Hills' Lauren Conrad debuted her line of laid-back day-to-night wear online. You can check them out here.

Questions:
  • Is the fact that the site model is a Rachel Bilson lookalike intentional?
  • Am I cheap bastard, or is $150 A LOT for a monochromatic top/dress?
  • Do you think she launched it on Heidi's birthday on purpose?

Hayden + Milo: C'mon, didn't we call that months ago?

"TMZ cameras caught the twosome walking arm-in-arm outside of HBO's after-party. When our cameraman approached the duo and asked if they were dating, Hayden got defensive, sassily saying, "I'm holding onto him because I'm about to fall over in these heels!"

Psh. I have seen numerous photos of them where he is TOTALLY checking her out. I went hunting and found these comic-con photos:

Oh, it is love, from the first time I set my eyes upon yours...

Someone call the body-language analysts! This is love. She's all "just a couple more months until I'm legal..."

I think it's cute. Even though I clearly want him for myself.

Buzznet's Britney round up.

If Brit subscribed to the belief that "no publicity is bad publicity" then she'd be stoked that people are still talking about her performance (or lack therof) a week later.

Buzzneters have had their say as well. On the "give her a break" side we have:
Amesallison.
Westoniancrunk.
Deejaysmurf.
Frankieromance.

On the "give it up, Brit" side we have:
Killscene.
Kamayratoro.

And on the "I HAD SO MUCH HOPE FOR YOU" side we have:

Lovebscott
and me.

ps. Rumor has it that Brit is going to appear on the Emmy's to apologize for her VMA performance. How weird would that be?

The 'Villain of Rock' gives Panic! cred, talks make-up

Classic shock-rocka Alice Cooper did an interview with NYmag today and had some nice things to say about Panic! at the Disco, The White Stripes, and Arctic Monkeys.

(Why didn't I post a pic of Alice Cooper? 'Cause he's not cute, and I'm shallow, that's why)

When asked, "What bands have the most to learn from you?"he responded, "Well, these young bands have to understand that it's all in the songwriting. The image is great, the icing on the cake is great, but if you don't have the songs, you're going to be around for maybe two years. Panic! At the Disco is an interesting band because they write really interesting stuff. The White Stripes are really interesting because they're just Detroit garage rock, but they do it with such intensity that they make me believe it. That's hard to do. I like garage bands, tough rock-and-roll bands. Arctic Monkeys are pretty good. I just hope it goes more in that direction rather than overly produced bands that aren't going to be around."

A couple more quotables:

What do you think of the way young kids are dressing today?
Every time I see the pants down under the butt cheeks and the side hat, I want to smack the hat off and pull the pants up, but I understand that's to make my generation angry. I get it. Fashion should provoke a little bit. It should make certain people angry. When we first came out, I was wearing makeup, in 1968. And everybody was just terrified because they thought, "My kids are going to wear that!" The kids turned out fine. You know, our job is to do that, to provoke. I was the villain of rock.

Do you find yourself wearing less makeup as you get older?
Tonight I'm wearing makeup because of this thing. Onstage I still wear makeup, but at home I never wear makeup. Marilyn Manson wears his makeup all the time. I told him, "You're going to get tired of that. That's going to get old after a while." You can read the rest at NYmag.

See? Wearing guyliner is not new.

International Suicide Prevention Day.

Jenrrray reminded me that today is international suicide prevention day. I know, I am not a "serious business" kind of person, but this issue is important to me. Because I think even those who have been lucky enough to not have to experience depression first-hand have known someone who has.

Some members here on Buzznet have been kind and considerate enough to create peer advice groups. Here are some of them:
I want to say thank you to both the creators and everyone who has ever answered a question in those forums, no matter how trivial it seemed.

Please remember that those listed above are not professional resources-- they're just a place to talk. There's a bunch of current resources and hotlines at To Write Love On Her Arms' site.

Suicide, depression, self-harm = not glamorous. It is not a "trendy" thing.

"According to the World Health Organization, depression is one of the leading causes of disability, with approximately 121 million people suffering with depression worldwide. The National Institute of Mental Health states that approximately 18 million people suffer from depression in America alone. Depression does not discriminate across age, race, gender, or class. Among teenagers it is estimated that 20 percent will suffer from depression at some point by the time they reach adulthood. There are also as many as 8.3 percent of teens suffering from depression for at least a year at a time, compared to 5.3 percent of the general population."

If you've never "been there" it may seem like something to scoff at-- I'm just asking you to think next time. That whole sticks and stones schpiel? Garbage. Words matter. The opportunity to make someone's day just a little bit better is always presenting itself. That's just my two cents, even though I have about $25 worth of ramble in me.

Thoughts?

The Heroes star spoke candidly with Buzznet -- she talked about the upcoming season (2 weeks! omg!), her favorite stunt she's performed AND.... her HOT co-star Milo.

Spencer Pratt: Future Governer of California?

You know, I'm a california girl through and through-- I want to travel the world, but I really have no desire to call any other place my home. Until I read the following Spencer Pratt quote that my blogging buddy AllieisWired pulled from Us Weekly today:

“I’m gonna run for governor in a few years. If Arnold Schwarzenegger can be the governor of California, Spencer Pratt can be the governor of California. Heidi’s learning to be a first lady. She could be my Hillary Clinton!”

Allie says:
This guy would be a great politician. He always refers to himself in the third person, he always has that fake ass smile, and I’m sure Heidi will stand by him when he cheats on her seventeen times.

I say: I am MOVING if Spencer "D-list" Pratt ever becomes governer. Seriously. I hope the Governator eats him for breakfast.

Marc Jacobs picks Lauren Conrad

Remember when I interviewed Lauren Conrad (The Hills) and she said Marc Jacobs was one of her favorite designers? No? Well, she did-- so now just how stoked do you think she is that he tapped her to walk the runway for him?

According to NYT/JJ, some veteran models are not that keen on this idea. They want to be on TV, but feel as if this is a "publicity show." Boo hoo?

I, personally, don't see the problem. I especially like this idea because Lauren isn't 5'11 and ano.

High School Musical set for world domination.

Truth: I still haven't seen HSM, never mind part two. But I kinda had a bad morning, so what better way to counteract little black clouds than stare at that squeaky clean crew of Disney hopefuls. It almost makes me want to burst into song myself. Except, not really.

I collected some shots from the London premiere and put them in a little galleria.

You can vote on the best dressed here. (I think Olesya Rulin takes my vote)

And don't forget today's Caption This! (Zac & Minnie, sittin' in a tree, w-h-i-s-p-e-r-i-n-g.)
