Quotable Gee: on Lyn-Z, sexuality on stage, and being a 'cupcake'
THIS is a pretty great interview with Gerard Way. Here are some gems I pulled from it:
![]() About playing to the Projekt Rev audience w/ Linkin Park: There was an extremely macho vibe in that crowd, and we were practically the biggest cupcakes on that tour, but they seemed to love it. I think they just needed a little razzle dazzle in their lives. About pushing 'sexual boundaries' on stage:It's with the most noble intentions -- it's to make certain people realise just because somebody is a performer or slightly effeminate, -- even that guy at work or that kid at school -- there's no reason to shove 'em around. So much testosterone has been in rock for so long -- that's why I'm so interested in pushing it. All it boils down to is treating women like second-class citizens, calling people faggots, being borderline racist, if not totally racist. A lot of things are ingrained in the stupidest rock 'n' roll we completely oppose. So one way we can push it is through our sexuality. About his spontaneous marriage to Lyn-Z:It's one of those situations where you don't know how your life's gonna go, and the minute you actually stop looking for something is when you find it. When I met my wife I was at a point where I was completely OK with being alone for a very long time, free of lousy people. [...] It's always when you're not looking for it -- I was totally fine, and then I get hit over the head! It was like getting hit by a truck. Read the rest of the interview here.

November 29, 2007Britney Spears & Jessica Simpson: talentless hacks?
Patti LaBelle recently slammed Spears and Simpson:
![]() “I think those girls are not going to be here very long. They have no talent. They are not like the Gladys Knights and the Dionne Warwicks,” the sixty-three year old says. (popcrunch) Anyway, what does she consider "very long" 'cause Britney never ceases to entertain. It's really not a discussion of talent, Ms. LaBelle. ps. If you don't know who Patti LaBelle is, keep watch on Wendy's 'Women in Music' posts.

November 28, 2007Nicole Richie: bonding for baby
From People:
![]() With the birth of her first child just two months away, Nicole Richie
says her pregnancy has helped her bond with her biological mother – and
brought her closer to dad Lionel Richie. Aw. I think she may be a good mom, believe it or not. They don't know if it's a boy or girl yet, and they haven't picked out a name."When I found out that I was pregnant," she tells Access Hollywood's Billy Bush, "there was just something inside of me that felt a responsibility to mend any issues that I've had with my parents in the past, because, listen, I've put them through a lot." I hope she has a girl. Little girls are more fun to dress up. No offense, boyz.

Butch Walker's house burned down
Producer/recording artist Butch Walker is a victim of the Malibu wildfires.
![]() "I had just consolidated my entire recording studio and house from
Atlanta into the one house in Malibu," Walker said in a press release.
"I lost everything I've ever owned. Every master of every song I've
ever recorded, every piece of recording equipment, guitars, drums and
things I've collected over the years, cars, motorcycles, every family
memorial, heirloom, picture, and document we ever had ... gone. I feel
like I finally know the difference between 'going back' and 'going
home'." While in the grand scheme of things, it's not SO bad (at least no one got hurt), can you even imagine losing all your belongings? I know their just material posessions, but it still has to be a pretty tough thing to go through.Source: Spinner

November 27, 2007My 50 fav songs of 2005
I'm posting this 'cause you didn't know me in '05-- because I'm gearing up for my '07 list and for the life of me, I do NOT know where my '06 list went.
*This does not necessarily mean THE BEST, or even that they were released in 2005. It does, however, mean they represent moments (and you know how I am about moments)-- of car singing, hot topic quasi-dancing, live shows, OC-watching, of phone calls from those who knew how much the songs meant to me. They are the best representations of my life, of Warped Tour, of my best times with best friends. In some cases, they even represent the worst times. Anyone in their right mind might want to forget that, but I appreciate those songs for capturing that bundle of feelings, and for the fact that I can crawl back into the song, re-experience it in a sense, and crawl back out knowing that I'm a better person for having lived through and learned from that experience. Without further ado, The Fifty: 1. Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson 2. Truth Is - Over It 3. Landed - Ben Folds 4. Sugar, We're Goin Down - Fall Out Boy 5. Be Still My Heart - The Postal Service 6. November 26, 2007Oh noez, we're not PUNK
Kay, I don't know in what context or WHY this came about, but a little gem from heavymetalmusic.biz:
Slipknot fans and album fans are way more punk than My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy are Let’s face it. It is commonly known punk and metal became popular because the fan bases of all those bands were social outcasts or misfits that were attracted to the music or culture. Looking back when those genres started, fans were genuine and believed in the lifestyle. Today with trendier bands like My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy, their fans are social robots who are not attracted to the subculture of the underground. They are only mindlessly attracted to these bands since Hot Topic sells their clothes and their local radio station play the stuff. Ugh! Slipknot is rarely played on the radio. Their fan base seems to be the laughing stock of society thus they become the true misfits of the current subculture based on their attitude and how they dress. Thus today’s true punk are fans of bands like Slipknot. Maybe even your goth enemy. My response:

Pete defends Ashlee. Or not
This morning I was skimming through ONTD when my accute Wentz-radar went off. So apparently Petey asked this band called Neuorsonic to stop promoting their song, "So Many People." Because it's about Ashlee Simpson-- specifically, her lip syncing stunt on SNL. This is the video:
1. My first thought was Yeah right. I bet Neurosonic started this rumor themselves. 2. Hello, old news. Last time I even mentioned the event, I rolled my eyes at myself. 3. I wish this band would lip sync. To someone else's songs. Because they kinda suck. That is all.

Lily Allen wants to retire at 25![]() British pop star Lily Allen has vowed to quit the music industry before she turns 25 - so she can 'lead a normal life'. The 22-year-old has hinted the follow-up to her 2006 debut Alright, Still will be her final album, because she wants to concentrate on her home life and having children. She says, "I'd like to live in the country and have chickens and pigs. It's a great job but it doesn't leave time for what's important - like having a family. I'm going to do one more album. I just want to make some money - maybe I could retire at 25." What?! Did she blurt this out in a drunken stupor? Look, not that there's anything wrong with chickens, pigs or children-- but 'retiring' at 25, isn't that a bit... I don't know, presumptious? Just how much money DID she make off of 'Alright, Still' anyway? I love Lil, but this seems like bait I don't want to bite at. Especially since between the age of 22 and 25, I changed my college major twice. No need to make any grand plans yet, oh fiesty one. Unless of course this is her subtle way of saying she's pregnant? Nah nah now, don't start rumors...

November 24, 2007Hawthorne Heights guitarist dies in his sleep
Casey Calvert, the 26 year old guitarist for Hawthorne Heights, died in his sleep last night.
![]() A statement from the band's official web site: Today is probably the worst day ever. Its with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We've spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we're not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don't contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don't want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know. Sincerely, I... don't even know what to say. That's incredibly sad. Please think some comforting thoughts for his family and his band. :(

November 21, 2007Death is still coming![]() Good news: There's going to be a Final Destination 4! Bad news: It's going to be shot in 3-D Yeah yeah, I get it, 3-D is all "in" again, but that ish makes me ill. Oh, and the FD series, as much as I'm morbidly obsessed with them (whenever they're on, I HAVE to watch-- as if the outcome might be different or something), they always put me on the verge of a panic attack. And then I spend like a week thinking I'm going to die. I'm sure seeing it in 3-D will put me over the edge. I'll be afraid to like, get on an elevator or use a toaster. Source: Hollywood Reporter

November 19, 2007Fiddy vs. Britney: Battle of the b*tches
Oh, censorship-- always a hot topic, no? 50 cent sees a double standard:
The rapper "quipped with a grin that nobody said anything about Britney
Spears saying, "It's Britney, bitch," on the beginning of her first Blackout single, "Gimme More." Let a rapper try to say that at the beginning of his song, chances are he might get censored.
"I guess they have their rules that apply individually to each artist separately: 'Oh no, he can't say that, 'cause he feels like that about that person,' " he told MTV Base. "But it's not a rule that applies to everybody else. Matter of fact, my next single, I'm going to start it [with], 'It's Britney, bitch!'" To help you visualize this: ![]() I'll be waiting, Fiddy. Don't get my hopes up. Ok, but on a serious note, what do you think of this double standard?

Kanye West breaks down
Kanye West's mama passed on a week ago but Kanye kept on. At a recent show in Paris, he broke down. From MTV.com:
![]() Toward the end of the hour-long show at Le Zenith in Paris, as "Hey Mama" began, West attempted to introduce the song, saying, "This song is for my mother ... " but could not continue, the magazine reported.
"He said the word, 'Mother,' and just couldn't go any further," Le Parisien journalist Meddy Magloire told the magazine. "A back-up singer, the DJ and a guitar player came over to console him. It looked like he might collapse. He just couldn't continue. He just stood there in a spotlight, crying, while the band continued playing." Can you even imagine? As much as I'd LIKE to thing I could be strong in a situation like that, I'd be hibernating for months I think. I respect him for carrying on, and for being vulnerable in front of his audience. I think it must take a hell of a lot of guts to do that. I totally would've given him a care bear stare if I was there. Ok, ew, I didn't mean to make that rhyme I swear. Ahhh! I did it again!

November 16, 2007Bad form, Wil, bad form![]() In the December 2007 issue of Rocksound, Wil Francis from Aiden has some sound bites on page 48. It's for the "If I ruled the world" feature... and he says *gasp*... well, read on: I would, "Ban the Internet. The internet is ruining the music industry. Labels are folding because people steal so much music that they're not able to make a profit anymore. And also, any anonymous person can go on and just slam somebody else without any repercussion. Nobody has the balls to just say sh*t to other people's faces-- it's something to hide behind. So f*ck the internet." Wil! How can you be so harsh? I mean honestly, I don't know how I got anywhere before Mapquest. Oh, right, I didn't drive before Mapquest. Ha. Lets not making sweeping generalizations now. Geesh. No ruling the world for you!

Patrick producing for Lupe![]() Chicago emcee Lupe Fiasco is dropping an album called The Cool on 12/18. In this interview with EW, he talks about it. Like you care, right? Well your boy Patrick produced one of the songs, so you MIGHT. Check it: Another new song, ''Little Weapon,'' was produced by Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy. What was it like working with him? He called me, like, ''I want to do a record for The Cool.'' And I was telling people, ''This album's dark, so the music needs to be dark but futuristic.'' So he sent the beat for ''Little Weapon.'' And I had a set list of things that I wanted to address on this album: I wanted to address the climate, which I didn't really do, and I wanted to address child soldiers. I actually met these guys that run this organization called Invisible Children backstage at a Fall Out Boy show, and I did ''Little Weapon'' as an ode to that [issue]. My partner Bishop G is on there taking the last verse. And the twist in the story is the little kid playing the video game — is he any different from the child soldier actually killing people? Because death is death, whether it's digital death or real death.

November 14, 2007Paramore @ Helio Store in Santa Monica
An alternate title for this post would be: HAYLEY WILLIAMS and I BOTH said "I LIKE YOUR HAIR!" to eachother at the SAME TIME. Hayley Williams LIKES MY HAIR! Got that?
![]() One time I was at a Foo Fighters meet and greet and Taylor Hawkins said he liked my hair-- but this was way more exciting, because Hayley 's hair is far cooler than Taylor's (sorry bro). Ok, this is not about my hair. This is about Paramore's performance at the Helio store in Santa Monica! They let us in first to take some group shots of them (go look on Kron's page!) then they let everyone else in to get ready for the performance. Ok, there were only like 15 people there. Soooo intimate! They played 3 songs acoustic and mannnnnn, they sounded amazing. They played Crushcrushcrush, Pressure and Misery Business. I am not even joking when I say I think they're the next No Doubt. And you KNOW how much a statement like that means coming from me. After that, they quickly signed some stuff... Kron tore out a piece of notebook paper and they signed that (wish I had something better, but I didn't think about it in advance). And yeah, when Hayley was signing my paper we both went, "I like your hair!" at the same time. Then she laughed and said "Ohmygod!" They're all so dang cute. I wish I was going to the show tonight, but I have previous commitments. Kron is going though, so I will live vicariously :) Yayyyyy Paramore!

MCR: Droppin' off like flies
Ok, not really, but according to NME, dear 'ol Frank Iero has left the world tour because of a family member's illness.
![]()
He will be temporarily replaced by guitar tech Matt Cortez, who already has experience up on stage. It was he who stood in on bass for Mikey Way when he took a six-month hiatus from the band earlier this year after getting married. However, this latest news leaves My Chemical Romance with only Gerard and Mikey Way, plus lead guitarist Ray Toro, as the only permanent members on the current tour. Drummer Bob Bryar is already having sit dates out after persistent wrist complaint became worse. Bryar is still travelling with the band however, assisting with the show's pyrotechnics. The singer assured NME.COM that fans will still get a full throttle, if slightly altered, MCR experience: "We've been through a lot of stuff on this record, dealt with life situations and stuff. Ultimately it's gonna be a little different and look a little different, but we're ready for this. Oh what? An MCR show with no Frankie? I would feel a little robbed. I think I'm just going to send healing vibes their way. Kind of like a care bear stare (anyone remember them? no? okay. moving right along)

November 8, 2007The Hills: more fakery
Is fakery a word? I don't know, but I sure like it.

I saw Heidi coming to visit Lauren at her apartment without her fiancé Spencer Pratt." You know what? I don't even watch The Hills anymore. It bores me to death. Bob Bryar UPDATE
This is brought to you by My Chemical Column:
![]() DJ Ginger of Q101 in Chicago announced this morning, during her radio
show, information she was given from the horses mouth when she ran into
Bob with his girlfriend Katlyn at a coffee shop in Chicago. I called Ginger to verify info given to me from a listener that heard the commentary live on Q101. She confirmed that Bob was indeed in an thumb to elbow black cast/brace on his right hand and he said jokingly that he thought he looked like the Terminator. She stated that she asked Bob how it happened and he explained it was tendon issues aggravated by years of playing drums. They spoke briefly about the situation and stated she felt he was obviously very disappointed about the circumstances as well as not being able to be on the tour. Additionally he mentioned that he was leaving for Europe today to spend a few days with the guys and then returning for continuing physical therapy. Mandy Moore + Matthew Perry?![]() The two were spotted on a date at Amici Trattoria in Beverly Hills. One source said, “He was already seated and waited for her for 15 minutes until she arrived. He stood up to greet her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. They were holding hands across the table and being really close and laughing a lot the whole time.” Reasons blogs are freaking out: Big fat age gap and the fact that Mandy is so wholesome and innocent and Matthew Perry isn't? I don't know. Something about him and rehab? (I thought that was only his problem on Studio 60?) Anywayz. I wish them well, if they're at "item."
