Travis McCoy defends Tyga

Earlier this year, rapper Tyga got signed to Decaydance records, and, as it often goes on the internet, sh*t-talking began. I haven't personally witnessed this haterade, but Tyga's cousin Travis McCoy has, and the normally very chill Gym Class Heroes leader is PISSED. Eloquently pissed, but still... Read more...

Fall Out Boy post MJ cover; Stump launches blog

Hey remember in the days before Infinity on High dropped when I thought Fall Out Boy's "Thriller" was gonna be a Michael Jackson cover, and then it wasn't? I though there was more trickery involved when I heard "Beat It" was recently posted-- alas, it really is the M.J. cover! The FOBs bring back the King of Pop (pre-freakiness) AND rope in a guitar solo from their man-crush John Mayer-- listen here.

Also in fringe-FOB news, the lovable and ever-ambitious Patrick Stump has launched his very own website to keep you informed on all his side-projects. Producer-Pat has a LOT goin' on, but he'll also update you on what other artist projects he lends his pipes to. And you haven't seen the end of P. Stump's acting skillz, either. Hurrah!

Panic at the Disco set for 'Heroes' soundtrack

"Heroes," despite being on an agonizing hiatus (MILO VENTIMIGLIA I MISS YOU!), is ready to put out its first original soundtrack — and music videos to go along with it, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The soundtrack — due March 18 — features Panic's new song "Nine in the Afternoon," plus songs from Death Cab for Cutie, Nada Surf and more. This is great news for "Heroes" fans, although Panic aficionados probably won't be celebrating as much, since they probably already have "Nine." Read more...

Incubus' Brandon Boyd: 'I loved what Radiohead did'

Incubus front man Brandon Boyd recently spoke to Aussie publication The Age about his band's place in the music scene and the possibility that they might cop Radiohead's unconventional album-release scheme-- he has a refreshingly optimistic perspective and it kinda makes me want to hug him. Ok, I may have ulterior motives for the hugging bit, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the man has a good head on his shoulders. Read more...

Mocking Maxim's music reviews

I'm not a dude, so I can't say Maxim Magazine has ever held any cred with me, but if it did, their latest slip-up (scandal?) would equal some seriousssss minus points.

The offense? They published a negative review of the Black Crowes album by a writer who hadn't listened to it! He wrote it based on what he thought it would sound like. So we decided to have a little fun with that...

Pete Wentz talks about "BLEEPing Ben Affleck" video

The Jimmy Kimmel spoof video, "BLEEPing Ben Affleck" (see here if you haven't yet) is not only hilarious and chock full o' stars (Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz, Joan Jett, Macy Gray, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Pete Wentz, Perry Farrell, Benji and Joel Madden, Lance Bass, Huey Lewis, Josh Groban, McLovin, Christina Applegate, Rebecca Romijn, and Dominic Monaghan) but was a blast to be a part of, too.

As Pete Wentz told MTV News on Tuesday...

"Pretty much everyone there was a riot — egos all checked at the door for the most part. Dominic [Monaghan] and I would pretty much bug Harrison Ford the whole time. Every time he would put the headphones on, we would be like, 'Tell us about "Indy 4," ' and he'd be like, 'What?' And then we'd say, 'Never mind.' I can't believe he got Huey [Lewis] on it. Jimmy's a funny guy, and I have to admit the Affleck idea is pretty insane. Besides, who would [turn] down the chance to do some homoerotic song that has Brad Pitt in it?"

Lucky bastards. Was I the only one who lurched at the screen and wailed "CHARLIE!" when Dominic Monaghan and Pete stepped up to the mic? If they sang "You Are Everybody" I would've shed a tear...

Amy Winehouse cosmetic line: would you buy into it?

Is Amy Winehouse hatching a plan to have her own line of clothing and cosmetics? Perhaps. It's all tabloid fodder at this point, but a quote pulled from The Sun says, Amy’s style has been copied by girls around the country and there’s a lot of money to be made. She wants to bring out a range of cosmetics and fashion products. There could be hairspray, head scarves, liquid eyeliner, perfume… all the things that are distinctive of her look.” Read more...

Honda Civic Tour: Time to start ‘Panic’-ing — It’s getting closer ...

The 2008 Honda Civic Tour-- toting Panic at the Disco, The Hush Sound, Motion City Soundtrack and Phantom Planet-- is still a month away. LIGHT YEARS away if you're not attending the April 10th kickoff date in San Francisco, CA. Whatever will we do to bide our time?

Well, we could think of a more fitting tour name. I have nothing against Honda Civics, they're nifty little cars. And I have fond memories of HCT dates of the past (my favs being 2003 and last year) it's just that the tour name isn't terribly... descriptive. Know what I mean?

Ashlee Simpson breaks out new single: Little Miss Obsessive

Ashlee Simpson's new single, "Little Miss Obsessive" is a duet with Tom Higgenson of the Plain White T's-- and guys? It's really freakin' good. Stop drinking the h8erade and just give it a listen on this radio website.

Because of my pop-junkie tendencies, I eventually warmed up to her first single, "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" but in all its quirky-80's wonder, I can't say it really hit home. Little Miss Obsessive is catchy and relatable.

It starts out moody and mellow with Tom chant-whispering something I can't totally make out (anyone get it?), and then Ashlee sings vaguely about a deteriorating relationship (oh, STOP, possesive Wentz lovers, you know it isn't about THEM).

It's the emotionally wrought power-chorus that really won me over though: "I guess we're really over / so come over / I'm not over it / Late night you make me feel desperate / I'm not desperate / Oh, a little bit possessive / little miss obsessive / can't get over it."

I'm so excited to already have an anthem for my next major break up! Which is an awful thing to jinx oneself with, but don't act like you don't have one in mind.

Panic at the Disco talk Pretty. Odd.

With the Pretty. Odd. release date rapidly approaching, Panic at the Disco's sophomore album is getting a TON of buzz.. And they're all in sharing-and-caring mode, so we get fed bits of info as the days go by. The latest words from the mouths of PATD? Stop freaking out about the whole "departure" thing.

Echoing what other online outlets have been saying, MTV News sized up the album as "probably the most Beatles-esque album to come down the pipe in a decade, recalling mid- to late-period Fab Four tunes ("Tomorrow Never Knows," "Lovely Rita," "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!," and "Rocky Raccoon" are just a few that spring to mind ) in both songwriting and scope.

... oh, fantastic. Beatles songs I've never heard of. Is this why some of you have your proverbial panties in a bunch? Because they're not even referring to your mom's fav Beatles songs? Read more...

Panic and that Green Gentleman... video

Those Panic at the Disco boys sure keep busy, eh? Apparently they've already shot the video for their second single, "That Green Gentleman."

The treatment is pretty out of this world. It has to do with those Russian [nesting] dolls that you have when you're a kid," guitarist Ryan Ross explained. "You have a big one, and you take the top off and there's a smaller one, and a smaller one. And it never ends. There's young versions of us in the video, like, us as children in the video. Us as toddlers, running around, flying kites." More, more, more...

Kanye West to perform at Grammy's

The Grammy Awards are on Sunday! Kanye West has 8 nominations.

According to reports, the Chicago rapper has been in rehearsals performing his hit "Stronger" from his recent album, Graduation, along with "Hey Mama" from his sophomore effort, Late Registration.

Tough as nails, yo. That's sweet of him to want to honor his mom in such a public way, but I can't imagine it'll be easy...

That got me thinking, though-- what are some other poignant songs about moms?

Justin Timberlake's new role

It pleases me when a crossover artist doesn't suck.Which is why I'm happy to report that J.T. just signed on to star in writer/director Michael Meredith's drama The Open Road, in which he'll play a young man trying to reconnect with his father (Jeff Bridges) as he struggles to get the old man home to his ailing mother's bedside. Kirsten Dunst in rehab

For being addicted to those god-awful wayfarer sunglasses. They took them away from her and now she's all "The world, it looks so... so different! The sky is so BLUE!"

Just kidding. She's in rehab for partying too hard at Sundance or something.

Yawn. Look, I hope she recovers from whatever brand of crazy she's suffering from, it's just that celebs and rehab go together like peas and carrots. It's kind of a bigger story if they DON'T go to rehab, know what I'm sayin'?

Dunst is currently filming, "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" so maybe it's just like, role research.

Ashlee Simpson likes my hair

I interviewed Ashlee Simpson today! After some rescheduling, we finally got to sit down with her at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. We talked about her about her upcoming album, style stuff, Valentine's day stuff.... you'll see!

She also said she liked my jacket. She fingered it and said, "Is this Marc Jacobs?" I said thank you, but no. She was like "Who's it by?"

Ha ha. I was like, "Oh, Kron got it for me for my birthday!" and pointed at Kron. "Good gift!" she said, "Good friend!"

Anyway, she was super animated and way nice.  Should be ready soon, until then, click that pic and watch her compliment my hair. Hahah.

Pete Wentz & Joel Madden duke it out for movie role

Okay, I totally made the headline up, but whatever. The important part is that there is talk about Pete Wentz and/or Joel Madden having a role in Diablo Cody's (Juno) next movie!

The movie, Jennifer's Body is in pre-production with the current plotline being described as "A newly possessed cheerleader turns into a killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?"

The role being discussed for Pete/Joel is Nikolai-- he's the leader of the Satanic emo band that well, inspires her to turn homocidal.

Never mind that I don't really have faith in either of them as actors-- if this is a comedy, putting either one of them in that role will be HILAR. Just admit it.

Please let this happen. Please?

Candidates and their rockin' supporters

This is just a who's who..

The Republicans don't have much support as far as star power goes...
Ted Nugent is backing Mike Huckabee
Ron Paul is backed by Krist Novoselic, formerly of Nirvana.

Hilary Clinton has:
Madonna
50 Cent
Tony Bennett
Jon Bon Jovi
Melissa Etheridge
Janet Jackson

Obama has:
Pete Wentz
Conor Oberst
Arcade Fire's Win Butler
Will Smith
Babyface
Ne-Yo
Usher

And then there's this:

Who else do you guys know of? Just curious...

Lily Allen miscarriage leads to break up

Oy. 2008 has not been good to Lily Allen so far. Just weeks after her miscarriage, her boyfriend Ed Simons dumped her.

All I can think is... maybe in retrospect, this will be a blessing to her. I don't think she'll ever look back and go "YES. BEST TIME OF MY LIFE!" but maybe the timing just isn't right, ya know?

I don't strongly adhere to the school of "everything happens for a reason" but when things fall apart-- or together, as the case may be, it makes me wonder...

I wish her the best, regardless. Do you think this will affect her music?

The Cab crashed!

Early this morning The Cab got in a van accident... Alex DeLeon wrote:

This morning at around 3 AM, our van slid on a patch of ice on a highway in Wisconsin. The van flipped a few times, and our trailer and van both ended practically upside down in the median of the freeway. I was sleeping in the backseat and was awaken by screaming and yelling, and before I could think or see what was going on the van was rolling and everything AND everyone were flying through the van. The van's TV hit Marshall in the face pushing his teeth through his front lip. Read more...

UPDATE: One of Mendoza's friends, Jessica, was in the van. Send her some well wishes...
