"New Moon" Spoilers, First Pictures

I know, you're probably thinking, how can the Twilight movies have spoilers? I mean, aren't they basically THE BOOKS? 'Twas my reaction, as well, but apparently the director has taken a few liberties. Maybe you'll be totally into it now. Oh whaaaat?

Bree's Book Corner: ATTENTION, ATTENTION, I AM IN THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I've had a song dedicated to me three times--twice by Yellowcard when they covered Michelle Branch's "Everywhere" (which may have hinted at my fervent fandom, mmhmm) and "Nothing Serious" when Over It (now Runner Runner) played Chain Reaction. If I remember correctly, it was when they opened for New Found Glory who were performing under the "secret" name Styx and Stones. The point is, every time it made an emotional imprint (and a LiveJournal entry). OMG read more!

Ben Folds @ Hollywood Palladium

As it happens, there were two piano-pounders performing in Los Angeles last night--Ben Folds at the Palladium and Jack's Mannequin over at The Wiltern. I'm really stoked the Ben Folds request went through (thanks LiveNation!) because I feel like SoCal gets more chances to see Jack's than not. Anyway, I'll freely admit I'm only a casual fan of Mr. Folds, but I've had friends who endlessly looped his live DVD as if they didn't own anything else, so I absorbed some of their fandom. On with the show!

Happy Blogger-versary to me...

Eight years ago from yesterday, I started blogging. It's so weird to have so much personal history in one space! I don't even remember how i stumbled upon LiveJournal, but I do remember it was a complete stranger who inspired me to start one up. Her username was beachgirl something or other.

I don't really have an audience over there, it's a very personal space to me and most of my entries are locked so that only my best friend can read them. Not that I hold great government secrets or clandestine meetings with rock stars... it's not anything really worth hiding, but I'm my most emo self there, and always have been. It's a place for catharsis. You know? Anyhow, as sort of celebratory thing, I asked the twitter peeps to pick any day between 5/21/01 and now, and I'd post the entry from that day. So, here goes, this is GwenArtax's pick, from 12/13/02:

And Cinderella thought *she* had problems.
I went on a horribly exhausting shoe-search tonite. I had planned on wearing the red-blue-tan spaghetti strap dress, but the shoes I wore it with the first time are dirrrrrrty. And no, I don't mean that in the same way Christina does. So I was out looking for red or tan sandals..........and excuse me, but this is SoCal, how the hell do sandals go out of season? I found nothing aside from some dangerously high prissy looking things at Guess. And wow, with those on I was an accident waiting to happen. I nearly took a plunge into the display cases the minute I slipped them on. Thank you, but I'll keep my E.R. visits confined to sports-related injuries once a year.

So I come home in a huff -but- no one is here to listen to me whine about my wardrobe woes, so for a calm minute I sit sipping my cold peppermint mocha and think "Really, anything I wear will be ok. Even dirty shoes." ................yeah right. I start thrashing about in my closet, and then in my other closet, and then move on to my mom's.....where I find *ta-da* impulse purchase number 256 -my vintage black Audrey-Hepburn-ish dress! I dig a little more and retreive a pair of strappy black sandals. Hmm.

See...strappy makes me squeamish. As a general rule, I like my shoes a bit [ok, hugely] clunky - I must compensate for my Herculean legs. Even though InStyle magazine mightly sourly categorize me as a Fashion Dont for my footwear choices, I would NOT wear Manolo's even if given to me as a gift, simply because I'd look like a Clydesdale in Ballet slippers. So I put on the dress and I'm a little shocked to say - it's roomy in places it most certainly was not before- [I lost weight!] score! And then the sandals......I teeter over to mirror, squint my eyes shut and *pray* ...[its these, or early morning shoe-hunt #2]...and by God, they look good! Well, not fantastic, but at the very least its a far cry from a Clydesdale in Ballet slippers -and that's what matters! I'm also pleased to assess that the length of the dress covers my unslightly [and numerous] Daisy Razor gashes.

I was so happy I stayed in the dress and shoes and just trotted around the house like that for another hour or so. Ok, I kind of needed pratice operating smoothly in those shoes, too. I hope I still like the ensemble tomorrow. I'm fickle like that.

Did I really just write that much about shoes?

Ha. And yet, my short story remains unfinished.

I think I was someone's wedding date, haha. The event itself ended up being super awkward, but I still own both dresses. The Audrey Hepburn one I wore on the Ryan Russel shoot.

I still hate heels and I could write a whole BOOK on that. I think I've bought 5 pairs total in my history of being a grown-up, and last weekend I donated 4 pairs of them to charity after having worn them once each. The last remaining pair are the black ones in this photo. I feel like in so many other ways, I'm quite a girly-girl, but when it comes to shoes, I only tolerate chucks, flats, boots or flip flops.

Gossip Girl: "Valley Girls"

Tonight's episode of GG introduced the spinoff that still might be via flashbacks that Lily Van der Woodsen had when dealing with jailbird Serena. Perks of the flashback included No Doubt performing "Stand and Deliver" during a club scene and... well, that's about it. This was also The Prom Episode, but we didn't get to see a whole lot of that. Opinions, my darlings?

Paramore Reveal Two Track Names; Taylor York Gets In On Photos

I like to start my week by gleaning information that makes me feel a millimeter closer to that new Paramore album, and this article published in the LA Times yesterday did just that. The band had mentioned in previous interviews (and in their LJ) that most of the songs have to do with friendship, as well as the tension that existed amongst the band members. More more more!

I Did It For The Dress: A Prom Memoir

I couldn’t really tell you what I was like in High School—I pretty much existed in my own bubble of super self-consciousness. I was a decently smart kid who spent a lot of my time running, simply because Cross Country was a sport that required a lot of willpower, but very little coordination.  I had crushes, but I didn’t date. I didn’t expect to be asked to Prom, but never for a second did that mean I wasn’t going. Keep reading, my darlings...
