Today Richard and I spent all day being extras in the "What A Catch, Donnie" music video shoot.

We got there at 1:30 and basically baked in the sun for a few hours (I have lobster arms, ahhh!) and then we went ON A BOAT!

I will blog some details tomorrow (without giving the whole concept away, in case anyone at the label is making concerned face at this blog right now).

For now, please imagine a scene where Brendon Urie attempts to get on the boat, falls in the water, and then upon successfully boarding the boat yells "YO THIS SHIT JUST GOT REAL!"

LULZ.

I usually never cross-post things that I post on LiveJournal here. That's a more personal space for me. Anything goes. But, I wrote this yesterday after spending the day talking with a few people about Michael Jackson's passing. I understood what happened on a cerebral level, but in general, I feel like everyone was feeling more than I was. Reacting more than I was. So I read some articles, then I sat with it a bit to think. And this is what came out:

Maybe I'm not sad because he accomplished so much. 50 is only half a life, but he really packed it in. He made a difference to a lot of people. Yeah yeah, I know, generic blah blah. I might as well be Charlie Brown's schoolteacher right now. Wah wah wah wah?

I guess the aspect of it that makes me sad is how much of his life he spent trying to be something else. I mean, physically. Visually. Had we not all followed his career, we wouldn't even recognize him on the street. How many knives did he go under? How many chemical treatments did he suffer through to make his skin lighter?

I get it. I get that if you're lonely or sad or confused, you spend a lot of time dressing up the exterior.

This $40 skin cream might change everything.
If I just had a tan, I would look thinner and then I wouldn't feel so awkward is social situations...

It's a peculiar thing--no matter how many people love you, no matter how much reassurance they give you, no matter how many awards you get or how many people count you as influential--you can still look in the mirror and think, "I'm imperfect and aesthetically displeasing, and I don't think I can accept that."

I'm okay. I'm working on it.
But there is no magic pill. And if Michael's body quit because he had a crazy amount of prescription drugs in him? Well, maybe that's what he was looking for.

Perhaps it's selfish to take something like this and make it about myself, but I think a lot of people have spent the last couple days reflecting on what he meant to their growing up. Their shape as a human being. And this is what he meant to me.

I once watch an episode of a TV drama in which the characters were participating in a “pill party”—there were various kinds of prescription drugs in a martini glass and the party-goers were just mixing to see how the felt and basically, to have an experience. I, personally, see this as an easy way to die. But, I understand the premise—new bodily and emotional experiences. I just prefer to do it with music.

I know I’ve gushed at length about Regina Spektor—I feel like she’s a modern day storyteller with a strong sense of the whimsical.
Often, when I’m looking for music to match my emotional state, lyrics are the first thing I go for. But not with Regina. I feel like I have set ideas in my mind about which songs of hers are love songs, agony songs, sad songs… and those core emotional reactions don’t really have their root in the words she writes.

So I’ve drawn up the best listening conditions for each of her tracks off of Far, which was released today. Pick it up, and live your life with the most superb soundtrack of them all. This way...

Belgian teen Kimberley Vlaeminck walked out of a tattoo parlor with 56 stars inked on her face. She said she only wanted 3, but that she fell asleep and didn't wake up until she felt her nose being tattooed.

The tattoo artist stands firm that she agreed to every last one of them and that the trouble started when her father saw this artwork. She's suing.

How does one FALL ASLEEP while someone is POKING YOUR FACE with a needle? From my undetstanding, you're not even allowed to take any kind of painkiller before getting tatted up, because your blood won't clot properly. So how did this chick simply doze off?

She couldn't stay awake for the time it took to complete THREE stars? But she just happened to stir from that beauteous slumber when star #56 was arriving on her beak?

Look, mistakes happen. Even the seemingly flawless Johnny Depp has to confess a burgeoning love for Wine ("Wino Forever") for the rest of his life, thanks to his relationship with future shoplifter Winona Ryder.

BUT 56 MISTAKES?

If there were a Law & Order: Trivial But Amusing Cases, this ish would make for a golden episode.
